Introduction

Professor Flora Tobolayefa Oluwafemi is the Vice-Chancellor of the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, Delta State, Nigeria.

She has a B.Sc degree from the University of Benin (1985), M.Sc, University of Ibadan (1987) and a Ph.D, University of Benin (2002).

Administrative Experience

Prior to her appointment as Vice-Chancellor NMU, she has served in different administrative positions which included being the pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko and former Head of Microbiology Department, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria.

Professional Achievements and Recognitions

She is the Founding Vice-President of the Nigerian Mycotoxin Study Group and has received numerous scholarships and awards, including the Shell Scholarship (1975-1979), German Academic Exchange (DAAD) Scholarship (1991 and 2008), Mashav Israeli Scholarship (2004), and Gordon Research Conference Scholarship (2017).

She has been recognized as a Google Scholar and has published in several local and international journals.

Professor Oluwafemi has supervised over a hundred undergraduate project students, more than 20 postgraduate students and as being assessor of Lecturers for Promotion in Nigerian Universities.

International Exposure

She has traveled extensively to many countries which include the Federal Republic of Germany, Israel, Ghana, Italy, South Africa, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Ethiopia, Northern Ireland, Benin Republic, Togo, and the Netherlands.

Research Interests

Her current research interest includes “Investigating Phycotoxins in Nigerian coastal waters and seafood”. This, she has great passion for because of the intended contribution to the Maritime Industry.

Vision as Vice-Chancellor

As Vice-Chancellor, Nigeria Maritime University Okerenkoko, Prof. Oluwafemi aims at fostering Academic Excellence, Innovation, Service Delivery, Good Staff Welfare and Inclusivity in Maritime Studies.
